Welcome to our blog

When Vinod and I founded Qryptal earlier this year - we thought we will be starting our blog towards the end of 2011 as we got closer to releasing our document security product. But we are blogging now and this post explains why.

We had lots of research and development to do and jumped headlong into this. Work, work and some more work - mostly of the enterprise software kind. Now when you start a new venture - you are all excited and cannot stop telling/showing folks about what you are up to. So we kept on doing this to our friends and families. One of the things we looked into were QR Codes. A contraption we created enabled uploading a document to our test server and getting a QR Code for it. Then whenever you scan the code - you can get the related document.

A few days later my daughter was trying to find the instructions to a board game she was gifted last year. As it generally happens, she could not find it when she needed it. A couple of days later she found the instructions. Our demo of QR Codes was still fresh in her mind and she immediately scanned the instructions, uploaded to our system - printed the document QR Code and stuck it on the back of her game. She was happy that now she will be able to get the instructions whenever she needs them by simply pointing the camera of her iPod Touch or my phone. She also made the comic below illustrating the use case.

We talked to a few people and found that there were a number of use cases of associating a document with a physical object and being able to get it on demand. We did find a lot of online services to create QR Codes but no easy way to link it to a document coupled with a nice mobile web experience for the end user.

Engineering effort wise - most of the development we needed for this- we in any case had to build for the enterprise solution that we are working on. So we decided to take a short detour and offer GetThisDoc to manufacturers of products as well as their end users.

GetThisDoc provides a very easy way to link documentation to a product. Just upload your document, get the code and stick it on your product!

Today, we are opening GetThisDoc.com to early adopters. If you are interested, please fill in this form.
